A luxury Champagne on every dimension other than price – and always on of our best-selling Champagnes for its compelling blend of delicious quality and remarkably low price. The 59 wine growers who make up this Aube-based co-op select their best Pinot Noir (30%) and Chardonnay (70%) for this high-end bottling. About 55% is from vintage 2020 and a generous 45% is reserve wine from 2019, 2017 and 2015. Those reserve wines and nearly three years on the lees in bottle give this a refined texture and layers of toasty, brioche, complexity.
It's truly the most delicious, complex, finely textured, version of Cuvee Speciale yet. A pretty light gold hue and tiny, persistent, bubbles draw you in for generous aromas of rising bread dough, stone fruits, crisp pear and toasted hazelnut. The fine bubbles really drive and lift the flavors of bruleed peach, sliced green apple, Anjou pear, buttered nuts and salty caramel. Then the wine finishes with excellent energy and freshness and lingering flavors of pear drop, baked bread, lemon rind and dried caramel. A joy to drink by itself and wildly versatile at table with everything from subtle seafood to grilled steak. Absurdly high quality for the price.
For You If: You enjoy the toasty character of real Champagne with a style and price point that encourages summer sipping with or without food.
Not For You If: You’re looking for Champagne showing the impact of oak aging or some oxidization – this is done all in steel and is super fresh, vibrant and refreshing.
