If you love the wines of Napa Valley - or just wonder what all the fuss is about - then, please, grab this chance to learn the story and taste the wines of Robin Lail. As her colleague, Matthew Perry, will share, Robin's Napa lineage goes back to great-grand-uncle Gustave Niebaum (founder of Inglenook in 1879) and reaches forward to some of the very finest wines made in Napa today. Robin grew up at Inglenook where her dad, John Daniels Jr., made legendary wines until he sold the winery in 1964. She co-founded Dominus with Christian Moueix in 1982 and then joined Bill Harlan to create Merryvale in 1983. And since 1995, with her two daughters and Napa star Philippe Melka, has crafted great wines of her own. Matthew will be sharing four of Robin's wines including the immediately delicious Blueprint bottlings, one of Napa's greatest Sauvignon Blancs every year, and her homage to her dad, the J. Daniel Cabernet. Of which, Wine Advocate says, "it's often one of the best wines made in the valley, with an uncanny sense of balance." Here's the full line-up: Lail Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Blueprint 2024 - "Bright, minerally and citrus-driven, with aromas of lemons, citrus blossoms, crushed stones and minerals. The palate is mid-weighted, textural and rounded, with fine acidity." James Suckling 93 points Lail Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Georgia 2022 - "One of Napa's most impressive examples of the variety, Lail's 2022 Georgia Sauvignon Blanc—picked long before Labor Day's scorching heat wave—features crushed stone notes, a subtle fumé character and fruity hints of lime, tangerine and guava. It's medium to full-bodied, plump and expansive on the palate, revealing plenty of texture and length.' Wine Advocate 96 points Lail Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Blueprint 2022 - "A fine value...Sophisticated aromas of crushed stone and dried herbs accent mixed red and black cherries on the nose, plus there's an appealing, savory hint of dusty earth. Medium to full-bodied, the wine exhibits a silky feel and mouthwatering acids on the palate." Wine Advocate 93 points Lail Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon J Daniel 2022 - "Lail's 2022 J. Daniel Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon draws largely on vineyard sources in Calistoga, Oakville and Stags Leap. Marked by intense black cherries and cassis, this full-bodied beauty is concentrated and velvety, finishing plush and long, while showing no chocolaty over-ripeness or dried fruit at all." Wine Advocate 98 points Believe it or not, tasting Robin's astonishing wines is absolutely free to you. All you need to do is make a reservation for one of three 30 minute tasting slots using the links above. Which you should do right now. This is a very special tasting. |
