Organic/Bio The wine formerly known by Stephen’s son’s name “Juel” now goes by his nickname, Little Bud. But it still tells the story of this wild vineyard in overview, combining fruit picked from all four corners of the site on a single day of harvest with some later-picked fruit and a just right jolt of whole cluster spice and modest sheen of new French oak. Stephen describes it well: “The upper elevations and thinner soils bring bright notes of violets, fresh cranberry, ripe strawberry, and a flicker of orange zest. These brighter tones tangle and intertwine with the vineyard’s deeper voice. Black cherries, and anise bring a grounded richness, while soft milk chocolate adds a comforting warmth. Vanilla and cinnamon pulse beneath it all, as the wine roams freely between brightness and depth.” A great Thanksgiving/Christmas Pinot that will get better and better over the next few years
For You If: You enjoy more body and texture on your Pinot than often found in the Willamette Valley – Stephen Hagen’s grazing based farming approach gives Pinot that really fills your mouth with fleshy richness while still delivering solid dose of refreshing acidity.
Not For You If: You’re after something light or ethereal – this is certainly fresh and hardly heavy, but it does have a lovely mouth-filling density.
