Organic/Bio This is just textbook Morgeot, with this large vineyard's signature breadth and depth perfectly balanced by fresh acids and a persistent, building, sense of crushed stone minerality. Deep aromas of golden fruit and butter-toasted hazelnut pulls you into a rich, round, almost creamy, Chardonnay palate of yellow pear, summer peach and ripe apple. The acids and minerality keep the flavors nicely delineated through a flowing, long, finish where ripe fruit, tangy butter, toasted hazelnut and a hint of fresh mint linger. Already pretty irresistible, but improving for another 15+ years with ease. Just lovey wine.
For You If: You love Burgundy Chardonnay that deliverys plenty of richness and ripe fruit with balancing acidity and minerality - in other words, great Chassagne Montrachet!
Not For You If: You're looking for something super reductive/flinty or with California levels of rich fruit - this is just lightly smoky and has more restrained ripe fruit.
"The white Morgeot from Lamy-Pillot is blended from three lieux-dits: Petit Clos, which is in the majority; Fairendes, just to the north; and Champs Jeandreau down the slope from La Boudriotte. Interestingly, it seems there is more vivacity than in the white from Clos Saint-Jean. Citrus and ripe pear dominate the aromas with a hint of spice and white flowers. The texture has more freshness and just a hint of reduction. From all indications, this is a wine that should age well."
"Gently reductive aromas of sweet orchard fruit, white flowers and pastry cream preface the 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered palate that's fine-boned, vibrant and charming. It's a blend of lieux-dits Petit Clos, Fairendes and Champs Jendreau."
