Lower ABV Same grape as the Albarino of Spain’s Rias Baixas but from further south in Portugal. Here the grape gives wine with more fruit than in Rias Baixas – pear, Key lime, Granny Smith apple – but just as much salty, seaside, minerality. There’s a bit of spice and even smoke hiding on the zippy, mouthwatering, finish that stays fresh but never turns astringent or hard. Delicious with or without food.
For You If: You’re like me and can’t get the image of a plate of thinly sliced crudo with tiny green herbs and dots of orange or apricot juice with flecks of sea salt and a streak of olive oil out of your mind; you just feel like drinking something refreshing and yummy.
Not For You If: If you’re after the buttery/oaky richness of New World Chardonnay or the flamboyant citrus and grass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, this isn’t that; you don’t want overt fruit flavors – even though this is hardly “fruity.”
