The steep vineyards on the north side of Etna get all the attention these days, leaving Terra Costantino’s wines from the eastern slopes nicely under-priced! I like the 90 point Vinous review here: “Smokey and earthy in the glass, the 2021 Etna Rosso DeAetna opens with a blend of crushed ashen stones and savory herbs, complicating rich raspberry tartlets. It's sleek and racy in style with zesty acidity and tart wild berry fruits underscored by saline minerals. Grippy tannins mount toward the close. Violet inner florals linger as the 2021 finishes spicy and tannic, leaving a crunchy sensation and licorice notes.”
For You If: You like plenty of ripe red and black fruits, a sleek mouthfeel, and tannins that just grip for a moment before releasing nicely; you’re looking for a classy all-purpose Italian red with more fruit and none of the leather of Chianti Classico.
Not For You If: You’re looking for a big wine – at 13.5%, this is medium-bodied for Etna and is more about energy and verve than pure power or throw-weight; you’re looking for overt oak flavors.
