Everything on the tasting table this Saturday is about springtime refreshment and enjoyment, including two reds that will be pretty perfect with Easter Lamb if you go that way, two whites that can handle asparagus, and a rosé created by two guys from Burgundy whose wines normally sell from a few hundred to multiples of thousands of dollars. Springtime cheese, too! Come by the shop noon-4pm this Saturday and get to know: Triennes Rosé Mediterranee 2024 – Two Burgundy legends - Jacques Seysses, founder of Domaine Dujac, and Aubert de Villaine, co-owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti – created this crisp, dry, rosé for all those times you don’t want to drink $1,000 red Burgundy – like now! Ruttenstock Grüner Veltliner Klassik 2023 – A snappy, citric, take on GV from a terrific young winemaker working in open plains of the Weinwertel region. A the classic white pepper spice keeps you coming back for more! Chauveau Pouilly Fume La Charmette 2023 - Benoit Chauveau is a master of capturing the white citrus, subtle fresh grass, and smoky “gunflint” mineral notes Sauvignon gives in Pouilly Fume, across the river from Sancerre. Huge value here. Cantina del Pino Nebbiolo Langhe 2021 – A deliciously drinkable take on Barbaresco Nebbiolo, mainly from the famed Cru of Ovello. As Vinous says, this is "a pretty, easygoing wine” with a “lovely mid-palate richness to the forward fruit.” Hillinger Hillside Red 2020 – Leo Hillinger crafts this rich, very Napa-like, red from Syrah, Merlot and Austria’s own Zweigelt with enough oak to make things smooth, creamy, and nicely spiced. A terrific cook-out red. Jose has chosen a deliciously springy cheese for us to enjoy with the wines: Goat Rodeo Hootenanny. Made from spring and early summer goat milk in Allison Park, PA, this Gouda delivers flavors of hickory nuts and wild flowers to go with Gouda’s classic crème caramel and lightly salty notes. The texture is springy – kind of like your mood will be once you come down to CBC and enjoy this Saturday’s tasting! |
