From their base in the Shenandoah Valley, Williams Corner Wines brings us delicious wines made by people who farm with care and make wine honestly and gently. Margaret Perry does a great job of sharing the WCW story and showing off why each of the wines they carry are distinctively delicious. Come join in the adventure while tasting these five favorites:
Dom Carrel & Senger Savoie Altitude 1161 Blanc – From Savoie but breaking with local tradition by blending 80% Gamay and 20% Chardonnay into a zesty, crisp, and just too much fun to drink bottle of fizz.
Eugene Carrel Savoie Jongieux 2022 – We love the wild blend of lightness and intensity of the best wines of France’s Savoie, just over the Alps from Geneva. This is a terrific one and while it will certainly handle fondue, it would be a shame to limit it to that.
Birichino Pinot Noir Central Coast Saint Georges 2023 – Old vines, minimalist winemaking, and a great site in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains explain the quality here. The low price is a bit of a mystery, but a happy one!
Birichino Mourvedre Lime Kiln Valley Enz Vyd 2022 - As Wine Enthusiast says in the 95 point rave, this is from "a vineyard that was first planted in 1895 near a long-dead mining town" in central California. Spicy, complex, irresistible.
Dom de la Bergerie Coteaux du Layon-Rablay Clos de la Girardiere 2018 – Speaking of irresistible, spiced, juicy, honeyed, late-harvest Chenin Blanc fits the bill perfectly. A golden nectar treat.
Nothing goes better with rich, sweet, Chenin Blanc than a bit of bleu cheese, and Jose has picked us a great one: Rogue Valley Creamery Rogue River Blue. As autumn unfolds in this part of Oregon, pasture grazing is at its best. So that’s when the cream for Rogue River Blue is collected, made into cheese, and aged 9 to 11 months before being released for the first time each year at the autumn equinox. With a lovely creamy feel to match the intense salty/slightly funky flavors, it’s no wonder this was World Champion at the 2019/2020 World Cheese Awards. And as delicious as it is solo, just wait until you tase how it plays with Coteaux du Layon!
This is going to be a fun and delicious visit with Margaret. Come on down and join us! |
