Description of Tasting:

What happens with the owners of Malartic-Lagravière in Pessec-Leognan, Bordeaux, take their very classic philosophy to the wilds of Mendoza’s Uco Valley?  Based on our tastings of Bodega Diamandes’s current releases, something pretty magical.  And delicious – very delicious.  As you can discover for yourself on Thursday, November 14 from 5-7:30 pm when you join us for our free Spotlight on Diamandes tasting!

After the surge in ever richer, ever oakier, Mendoza Malbecs of 2005-2015 or so, the winegrowers of Argentina’s Uco Valley have re-thought everything.  Led by folks like the Bonnie family, who established their Argentina outpost in 2015 with a very Bordeaux sensibility.  In their vineyards at 1,100 meters elevation, they focused first and foremost on terroir, the unique character of soils, slopes and climate that make each vineyard special.

From organic farming, to plot-by-plot harvest and fermentation, to winemaking that celebrates New World fruit ripeness with a strong nod to Bordeaux structure, balance, and food-friendliness, the wines of Diamandes showcase everything we love about where Mendoza wines are going these days.  As you see when you join winery representative Guillaume Virsolvy to sample:

DiamAndes Chardonnay Uco Valley Perlita 2022
DiamAndes Malbec-Syrah Uco Valley Perlita 2020
DiamAndes Cabernet Franc de Uco 2020
DiamAndes Cabernet Sauvignon DiamAndes de Uco  2020
DiamAndes Malbec DiamAndes de Uco 2020

Don’t sleep on that middle wine, the Cabernet Franc.  One of the best New World examples our team has tasted ever!

There’s no fee for this tour of modern Mendoza and Bordeaux style in the Uco Valley, but please RSVP for one of the five tasting slots today.  Note that the 5-5:30 session is usually the most full and the 6 and 6:30 sessions often the most intimate.  We think you’ll enjoy the story and love the wines.  Come see for yourself!
