Description of Tasting:

Christmas is coming and we all deserve a little present for making it this far into the holiday season with good cheer (more or less!).  So this weekend we’re pouring a fabulous set of “Lux” wines that will be a joy to taste and, maybe, give you some inspiration for what to serve next Wednesday.  From 3-7pm on Friday noon-4pm Saturday you can taste:

Fresne Ducret 1er Cru Pierre & Prosper Brut NV – If you want to understand why you should join the CBC Champagne Club, one taste of this – part of our December release – is going to convince you.  Aged in steel and barrel and with 13 years on the lees, this is wildly complex and delicious Champagne.

Bzikot Puligny Montrachet Village 2022 – Very classy (and surprisingly affordable!) Puligny Montrachet showing flinty smoke, ripe apple, pear and stone fruit and touches of tangy French butter, crushed hazelnuts and a touch of citrus zest. Yum.

Mastrojanni Rosso di Montalcino 2022 – A touch of Brunello character from 100% Sangiovese Grosso grown in Montalcino but in an easier-drinking (and more affordable) package.

Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Loreto 2019 – Our favorite wine of the 2019 Brunello vintage has all the power and intensity you’d hope for in a beautifully elegant, pure, package.

Abram’s Bridge Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2022 – We can’t tell you who winemaker Neil Koch bought the fruit from for this rich, deep and very satisfying Napa Cabernet. But you’d know all the names and certainly will recognize the whiff of Prichard Hill, grip of Howell Mountain and style of top Rutherford and Oakville sites here, all at a terrific price.

Jose has picked out a very Lux cheese for us this week, too:  Ur Eiche or “Old Oak” from Switzerland. Christa Egli starts with premium milk from pastured cows, makes the cheese with her own rennet, and then washes it with oak wood extracts and ages it for 10 months with wood on top. Slightly crumbly and dotted with salt crystals, as Christa says, it “tastes like toasted brioche and macadamia nuts, with notes of barrique wood and pineapple near the rind.” Don’t miss this very special holiday treat!
