A big snoot- and mouth-ful of crushed berries and cherries with some cocoa dust, a touch of acidic/tannic bite, and a “I dare you to stop drinking me” finish that keeps you coming back for more. Like an Italian Chianti French Cotes du Rhone from California. When Morgan Twain-Peterson released the first Whole Shebang, instead of a bottle he put it in a little, 750ml, jug. Thereby clearly communicating his intent: this is every day, gulpable, table wine that just happens to come from the guy behind Bedrock, one of America’s masters in nurturing old, old, California vines from vineyard to bottle.
The wine trade hated the jug, but join drinkers like you in loving the wine over the 16 releases to date. It’s mostly Zinfandel from vines too young or not quite healthy enough to fit in the Bedrock project, with dollops of Carignane, Petite Sirah, Mourvedre, Alicante Bouchet, Grenache, Syrah, Barbera and some white grapes, mostly from vintage 2021 but with older stuff tossed in as needed/appropriate.
For You If: You want California fruit and 1st-rate winemaking in a boisterous but balanced format; you enjoy Zinfnadel and are ok not having the wine take your head off with intensity; you want a pizza/pasta/burger wine everyone will enjoy.
Not For You If: You don’t like fruit in the lead; you’re in the mood for something that tastes “fancy”; you’re not down with wine making your mouth water.
