Organic/Bio From France’s Basque country, this is a very Bordeaux-like blend of 60% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Tannat. Rich blackcurrant and blackberry fruit aromas and flavors are framed by sweet spice and earthy, leafy, notes for complexity. It’s old-school – fruit balanced by non-fruit and appetizingly austere – but also generous and sophisticated. Perfect for rich meats, eggplant, mushrooms and more.
For You If: You’re after something like “gutsy Bordeaux” – wine with Bordeaux’s sophistication and layered flavors and also an extra dollop of intensity/power; you enjoy old-school Cotes du Rhone’s blending of dark fruit and earthy garrigue – this is a slightly different flavor profile, but in that style.
Not For You If: You’re after the pure fruit and polish of a modern Bordeaux or Southern Rhone red – this is fruit AND non-fruit in one beautifully integrated, gutsy, package.
