Organic/Bio Lower ABV It's hard to believe how much delicious flavor can be packed into a wine of so little pretension - and so little alcohol (just 12.5%)! The main grape here is Mencia, although a half-dozen other varieties are scattered across the vineyards that tumble down the steep sides of the Sil River Valley and end up in the wine. This year's release adds more richness of fruit and flesh but with no loss of the freshness and vibrancy here that works beautifully with all kinds of seafood and as solo sipper with a light chill. And the flavors and sneaky structure are more than bold enough to delight with a big hunk of dry-aged beef.
As Suckling says in the 92 point review, "The nose shows aromas of pleasant and exuberant red fruit. The palate is juicy but elegant and ethereal, easygoing and very drinkable. A great young Guimaro with plenty of fruit." This is very highly recommended.
For You If: Words like vibrant, fresh, juicy, and life-giving describe wines that make you swoon; you like Loire Valley Cabernet Franc or cool-climate Pinot Noir with higher-than-average fruit; you’re looking for a terrific surf & turf red.
Not For You If: You’re adverse to even a hint of fresh herb; you want big/bold textures and weight.
