Organic/Bio Diego Finocchi purchased this small, 12 acre, vineyard in 2006 at age 24, before he’d even finished his final exams at winemaking school. The vines were older than he was – planted in 1967 – and were already naturally low-yielding on their poor clay and sand soils and 430 meter elevation. And they dropped further as he revitalized the vineyard by converting to 100% organic farming, certified since 2015. We’ve appreciated every vintage we’ve tasted and this one, perhaps, most of all.
For You If: You're after classic Chianti Classico with super-pure cherry/raspberry fruit and the kind of structure that cries out for slice of steak or plate of rich ragu - although just sipping the stuff is pretty fun, too.
Not For You If: You're looking for boatloads of leather, earth and other funky stuff - this delivers the flavors Chianti is famous for but as attractive accents to the ripe red fruit.
