Wines of France, Austrian and the Willamette Valley claim spots on the Friday tasting table this week. Some are terrific value choices you’ll reach for again and again. And two are crazy-good Willamette Valley wines that are definitely worth a little splurge. Join us this Friday from 3-7pm to sample:
Dom Labbe Abymes 2023 – The newest release of our favorite Alpine white has all the wild mountain herb, crisp pear and stone fruit, and chalky minerality of pervious releases with just one touch more texture and volume. From $12.98, a terrific value.
Walter Scott Chardonnay La Combe Verte 2023 – Intentionally pattered on the stellar Meursaults of Dom Roulot, this is a brilliant pairing of Burgundian minerality with ripe Willamette Valley fruit.
Dom Du Salvard Pinot Noir Unique 2022 – From Cheverny in the Middle-Loire, this is more of an all-purpose “bistro red” than a classic Pinot Noir, a wine you’ll pair up with all kinds of food and enjoy just sipping on a sunny afternoon.
Hillinger Small Hill Red 2022 – Merlot, Pinot Noir and Saint Laurent from Austria’s Burgunland might not sound like the basis of a great, all-purpose, party and weeknight dinner red. But that’s just what Leo Hillinger brings us and at a great price, too!
Walter Scott Pinot Noir La Combe Vert 2023 – From one of the few Willamette Valley wineries actually better known for Chardonnay than Pinot Noir…this is a heck of a Pinot Noir. Ripe, minerally and beautifully structured, it’s far classier and more complex than the price would suggest.
With the wines, you won’t want to miss sampling Jose’s cheese selection this week: Goat Rodeo More Cowbell. Based in Pennsylvania, the folks here made the mistake of buying a goat. And soon had a bunch. Which gave them lots of milk. So…cheese! Which led to getting some cows. And THAT brings us More Cowbell, a semi-firm cow’s milk cheese made in a Swiss Mountain style. Think a cross between Swiss and Gouda and you’ll…well, you’ll probably be confused. But one taste of this with any of this week’s wines and you’ll end up convinced you need to have some at home! |
