Lower ABV Christian Bellei is, as Vinous said recently, "one of the true Lambrusco di Sorbara masters." A 4th generation Lambrusco maker, Bellei continues his father's innovation of making Lambrusco in the Champagne method - with the secondary fermentation in bottle and sediment disgorged after the secondary fermentation. He works exclusively with the lightest, most feminine, grape of the region - Lambrusco di Sorbara - to create wines that have plenty of deep, rich, red wine character to go along with enlivening, elegant, fizz.
This 2018 vintage wine shows why Bellei's wines are on the list a Michelin starred restaurants around the world. Fresh strawberry and red cherry fruit showing a touch of late-season sweetness gets lifted by fine bubbles and notes of sweet spice, blood orange and tangerine pith. Plenty of depth and flavors intense enough to last all the way through the lip-smacking finish.
For You If: You like Lambrusco (this is a terrific one!); you’re looking for the most perfect match for pepperoni pizza, cured meats, or spicy lamb curry ever.
Not For You If: You’re after a sweeter Lambrusco (this is dry); you’ve been so badly scarred by terrible/cheap Lambrusco that you just can’t imagine it could ever be good – although it’s worth pushing through the trauma to try this if you can!
