Sisters Delphine, Roseline and Cendrine Faraud make just one wine, this ultra-traditional Gigondas from one vineyard of 40-70 year-old Grenache (about 75%), Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvedre. Plenty of Southern Rhone fruit here – black cherry, plum, raspberry – along with a lot of earthy/herbal notes of licorice root, mint, basil, ceder, loamy soil and more. Silky and lightly grippy, this just gets better and better as the meal goes on.
For You If: You like “old-school” Rhone reds that smell and taste like the land when the Mistral blows over the vines, olive trees and wild herbs; you’re looking for one of the greatest matches for leg of lamb ever.
Not For You If: You don’t like wines pretty much anyone would call “earthy” – there’s plenty of fruit here, too, but the non-fruit flavors are assertively delicious.
