Organic/Bio When everyone else in Rueda was planting crummy grapes to replace those devastated by phylloxera, the farmers at what is now this outstanding Rueda winery just kept tending their vines in the cool, sandy, soils between the Adaja and Eresma rivers. Today the remaining 140 year-old Verdejo vines give astonishing orange and tangerine fruit, a lifting squeeze of lemon and loads of chalky, salty, minerality. Brilliantly delicious.
For You If: You like dry, crisp, Italian whites and/or the salty minerality of Muscadet, Chablis or Savoie whites and want that with just a touch more crowd-pleasing, thirst-quenching, orange/tangerine citrus fruit.
Not For You If: I guess if you simply have to have oak on your white you wouldn’t like this, but the truth is, everyone should try it!
