Organic/Bio Lower ABV From gray and red slate soils on a steep, steep, vineyard running down towards the Mosel, this delivers quite a show. It’s dry, even savory, with aromas and flavors like crushed slate, powdered red peppers and a touch of salt melding nicely with tangy fruit notes of lemon, lime and tangerine. It’s big for Mosel Riesling at 12.0% but also wonderfully elegant and vivid. Captivating stuff.
For You If: You enjoy Riesling fruit and flavors and acidity but aren’t in the mood for a bit of residual sugar; you’re looking for a wine that is light but feel full and substantial; you like wines that clearly tell you there was slate and rock in the vineyard.
Not For You If: You like your wines soft and mellow – this has plenty of richness, but also a sharp, crisp, finish; you’re after sweeter Riesling – this is all the way dry.
“The 2020 Briedeler Herzchen comes from gray and red slate soils of a steep vineyard that is virtually the southeastern extension of the Pündericher Marienburg. The wine opens with a deep, pure, fine and very stony bouquet of crushed slate, lemon oil and yellow paprika. Round and crystalline on the palate, this is a lush and rich yet elegant and balanced dry Riesling with round and aromatic, juicy fruit and crystalline acidity. The Herzchen is full-bodied and round and reveals a fine phenolic structure that balances the power of this unusual fruit-intense and mouth-filling Riesling perfectly.”
