Lower ABV The Agenais IGT region overlaps the "better known" AOCs of Buzet and Cotes de Duras in the Lot-et-Garonne Department. Ok, let's make it easier- it's about 80 miles south of Bordeaux. Cabernet Franc and Sauvigon Blanc grow wild here and it was likely here in the 17th Century that the two varietals crossed to produce Cabernet Sauvignon.
So Christophe Avi makes his pink wine from the traditional grapes of Agenais, Cabernet Franc (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (80%). Picked fresh (13.0% alcohol) for rose and aged a bit in old casks, this is redolent of red currants, fresh cherry, tangy watermelon, orange blossom and lime leaf. It feels generous in the middle and finishes with dusty minerality and a nice sense of grip. It's fun to drink, refreshingly dry, and a heck of a deal.
For You If: You enjoy traditional dry rosé flavors with a touch of extra body and grip; you’re looking for pink wine to drink in cooler months and with heartier food.
Not For You If: You’re after ultra-light or off-dry rosé: this is crisp and zesty and bone dry with a nice sense of weight to warm up a cool evening and match up with robust foods.
