For me, volcanic soil Pinot is always a unique blend of dark red fruit - raspberry, cherry - with dark, dusky, notes of smoke and toasted spice. In 2022 you find all of that but also a bigger sense of freshness and verve to play against the wine’s lush and silky mouthfeel. A broad base-note of cola and top-notes of lavender, orange peel, and loads of crush rock show right away and the wine unwinds in the glass to add layers and depth and the finish is long, pure, and seamless, with super fine-grained tannins and floral cherry cola flavor lingering on. Really fine example of Jory-soil Pinot Noir.
For You If: You like your Willamette Valley Pinot to have a lot of palate impact and a real sense of presence and weight, even at just 13.5% alcohol; you enjoy the sense of lushness that Oregon’s volcanic Jory soils always impart.
Not For You If: You like a little twang or bite to your Willamette Valley Pinot – this is nicely fresh and terrifically balanced, but words like “lush” and “silky” are what the wine is all about.
