Lower ABV We’ve been impressed by the Fioroni family’s last few Vernaccia releases, but the just arrived 2017 takes the deliciousness to new heights even as the price goes down! Since at least 1276, Tuscany’s Vernaccia grape has delivered whites of true character and refreshing zest. Nearly wiped out by easier to grow, and higher yielding, Trebbiono and Malvasia in the mid-20th Century, Vernacchia was saved when Italy created Tuscany’s first (and only) white wine DOC for Vernacchia grown on the sandstone soils around the old city of San Gimignano.
This is a classic example, made from 100% Organic grapes harvested at optimum ripeness and allowed to become wine slowly, naturally, in neutral tank. It’s wonderfully expressive on the nose, with generous aromas of peach, apricot, green apple, and herby wildflower. Take a sip and you’ll love how it fills up your mouth with rich flavors of mid-summer stone fruit (peach, apricot, nectarine), Granny Smith apple, and tangerine zest. The lip-smacking fresh finish makes this a great anytime sipper, but it will shine most brightly at table with fish, poultry, and cheese.
