Montestefano is one of the Produttori’s steepest sites and one of the warmest. The high calcium content of the soil is more like Barolo’s Serralunga than the rest of Barbaresco, and the wine is more Barolo-like as well. If you crave a wine that can be described with words like regal, powerful, majestic, and intense and you’re willing to wait 5 years to open your first bottle, then Montestefano is for you.

“The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is a potent, savory wine. Today, the fruit is very much in the background. A brooding, backward Barbaresco, the Montestefano clearly needs time, it is a somber, imposing Barbaresco. Dark plum, earthiness, cloves, menthol and licorice infuse the finish with notable gravitas. There's plenty of Montestefano breadth and resonance.”
