Lower ABV From sites across Kremstal, across the Danube from Wachau, this sits at the intersection of steely Chablis and salty Albarino in style with a nice does of Grüner Veltliner’s unique white pepper freshness. From vines of up to 50 years of age with half pressed whole cluster and half destemmed and allowed to soak for 6-8 hours to add texture and bite. Using native yeasts, gravity flow to move the wine, and giving it 4-5 months on the lees in tank and large old barrels really lets the character of Kremstal’s steep and hilly vineyards shine through. There’s more than enough flavor intensity here to serve as a balance to Thanksgiving dinner’s richness. And the complex, dry, flavors and zippy texture make this a brilliant cocktail and seafood white all year long Just 12.8% alcohol and bone dry.
For You If: Certainly if you love Grüner Veltliner, but also for fans of French Sauvignon Blanc and crisp, clean, Italian whites – just with more white pepper spice and complex flavors.
Not For You If: You’re looking for a wine that feels rich or shows the influence of oak – this is super vibrant, crisp, and made all in steel.
"A very fresh style of gruner veltliner with crisp pear, lemon balm and chamomile aromas, plus very lively acidity for this grape on the medium-bodied palate. Long, crisp finish with stacks of lemon zest freshness."
"The 2023 Grüner Veltliner Senftenberg Rameln is the Proidl’s village wine, using the historic name of a parcel neighboring the Ehrenfels site. It was fermented spontaneously in stainless steel and large barrel. The nose still has a touch of reduction, but green pear shimmers through. The palate is juicy and slender, still with a pleasant yeastiness that gives this a youthful vibe. Its essence is slender, fresh and bright. (Bone-dry)"
