Lower ABV A crisp AND luxurious Gruner. Franz Proidl’s dad said this high-up site froze too often for grapes to work, but Franz’s hard work (and a climate change boost) made it work. You’ll taste a bit of the crisp white pepper and crushed stone mineralty of the best Kamptal wines – Kittmansberg Vyd is just over the hill – and the rich, deep, ripeness of the Wachau just a few miles down the Danube. The wine has a green apple grip on the finish that makes your mouth water and keeps the flavors flowing long and pure.
For You If: You enjoy excellent, dry, Grüner Veltliner and are looking for one that balances richness of texture with steely minerality and cut; you’re after a terrific companion for fried or browned fish – this will sing!
Not For You If: You’re after something wildly fruity/aromatic like most Sauvignon Blanc or something where fruit is pretty subdued, like the wines of Switzerland or the French Alps.
