Lower ABV Language of Yes is Bonny Doon-founder Randall Graham’s attempt to capture the charm and drinkability of France’s Languedoc region on California’s Central Coast. Which is what he’s done here in a wine that Suckling says in his 93 point review has “Great balance and drinkability.” It’s mainly Cinsault and Syrah fermented together plus splashes of Grenache, Tannat and even Vioginer (just 1%).
It’s full of ripe berry fruit – plums, cherries, cranberries – balanced by a tangy fresh texture. Wine Enthusiast’s 92 point review captures it nicely: “Fresh and zippy aromas of black raspberry and scarlet rose are enhanced by wet earth, sumac and cinnamon on the nose. Thyme and fennel-frond flavors lead the herbaceous palate before bright raspberry, lemon peel and warm toast elements arise.”
For You If: You’re looking for something that drinks light and fresh while still packing a big punch of flavor; you’re after a red to complement everything from seafood to steak and leave you refreshed and with plenty of room to keep eating.
Not For You If: You’re hoping for dark, rich, fruit – it’s bright and crunchy here; you want something with lots of grip or oak – this finishes easy and shows no oak influence.
“A blend of 64% cinsault, 26% syrah and small amounts of grenache, tannat and viognier go into this snappy, structured, nervy wine. Plums, cherries, sour cherries and even cranberries give it a vital lift and tangy texture. Great balance and drinkability.”
“Fresh and zippy aromas of black raspberry and scarlet rose are enhanced by wet earth, sumac and cinnamon on the nose of this Cinsaut-based blend, which also includes 26% Syrah, 6% Grenache, 3% Tannat and 1% Viognier. Thyme and fennel-frond flavors lead the herbaceous palate before bright raspberry, lemon peel and warm toast elements arise.”
