With its recent elevation to DOCG, it’s great to see the fine Colli Fiorentini region of Tuscany get the recognition it deserves – at least when the wines come from Torre a Cona! It’s 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino, all from vines at around 1,000 feet elevation. Aging 70% in steel locks in the ripe black cherry fruit while 30% in large cask adds a touch of spice and refines the supple finish. Certainly fine with steak or pasta and easy to simply enjoy.
For You If: You're looking for classic pizza/pasta Chianti that can hang out well with burgers and chops, too; you enjoy Sangiovese's crunchy dark red fruit and don't want a lot of leather/earth getting in the way.
Not For You If: You're after a powerful, tannic, highly-oaked Chianti or one that's loaded with leather/earth - this is cheerful, fresh and has a just right dash of Sangiovese grip.
