“Côtes Catalanes” makes you think of Spain’s Catalyna and the slice of France’s deep south Rousillon region it describes has a lot in common with Spain. Including the grape the Spanish call Cariñena and the French Carignan that gives dusky blue and black berry fruit with chalky tannins and a dusty feel the recalls powdered limestone. It’s dark, purple fruited and chunky, will stain your teeth and tongue a bit, and goes great with cookouts and stews.
For You If: You want a wine with a lot of fruit that is decisively not fruity; you enjoy the feel of drying tannin climbing your gums and giving a squeeze before melting away with a little time or your next bite of food.
Not For You If: You want something smooth and soft; you’re looking for something “fancy” – this is more gutsy and bold.
"A lovely nose with dark cherries and berries, raw cocoa and baking spices. Medium body with firm tannins. It’s fruity and juicy at the center with a chewiness around the edges. Rich and flavorful finish."
