In this very short harvest, there's a little more oak influence to Sylvain's village Puligny (not more new wood, but more second and third use barrels that needed to be kept full!). It just makes this lovely Chardonnay more luscious, spiced and complex. Aromas of buttered almonds, sweet baking spice, ripe apples and pears and a little hint of vanilla come out of your glass with energy. On the palate its both light and creamy, at once transparent and satisfyingly dense. The flavors focus on green apple sauteed briefly in tangy butter, ripe and juicy lemon and a touch of peach. The buttered and spiced hazelnut accents on the palate expand to shine brightly through a flowing finish that shows fine mineral grip and a refreshing grace note of vibrant mint and chervil.
This is already a delight to drink and you'll especially love it with scallops or grilled fish finished with a dollop of butter and squeeze of lemon or with grill-crisped chicken thighs done with a slice of lemon under the skin. Over the next few years it will get creamier and deeper and be ready for big hunks of sweet and salty lobster dunked in butter. Good stuff indeed.
“Smells a little riper than the Bourgogne Côte d'Or and a little more toasty/spicy oaky, but it's subtle, adding a mealy richness to the texture. Deep-fruited, mouth-filling and yet still bright and mouth-watering on the finish. Impressive for a village wine. Intense and very persistent.”
