From one of Rioja’s great historic estates, this blend of Tempranillo and 15% Graciano, Mazuelo and Garnacha aged 24 months in French and American oak. As Suckling says in the 95 point review, "A precise, layered nose that shows excellent purity despite some sweet oak spices. More berry fruit comes out as you give it some time in the glass. Plums, cherries, red berries with dark mushrooms, cured meat, grilled spices, stones, vanilla and iodine. Juicy, spiced berries quickly tighten up on the medium- to full-bodied palate with dusty, powerful tannins, allowing it to expand into the finish. It grows on the palate and the creaminess is already chiselled. This will age beautifully in the next 10-15 years."
For You If: You enjoy the savory, savory, complexity of maturing Rioja matched by generous fruit and a beautifully fine-textured finish; you’re looking for a grand and impressive pairing for fancy meals featuring beef or lamb – this is just the ticket!
Not For You If: You’re looking for something smooth or fruity – the tannins are fine here and the fruit plenty present, but six years from the vintage and with 2 years in oak, this still has grip and the fruit is framed by plenty of maturing wine and oak spice.
