Winemaker Neil Koch has worked with superstar Philippe Melka at benchmark Napa Cab houses like Seavey Vineyards, Bryant Family and Vineyard 29 and helped make the bold whites and Chardonnays of Lewis Cellars as assistant winemaker there. Between his connections with many best-of-the-best Napa Cab winemakers and experience as a professional grape broker, Neil is able to consistently source breathtakingly good raw materials for his own wines under The Dude and Abram's Bridge labels.
The 2022 Abram's Bridge Cabernet is one of those wines, blending fruit from Rutherford, Yountville and almost 10% from Howell Mountain and aging 15 months in 30% new French oak. It has a wonderfully rich and velvety Napa Cab texture, oodles of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, and enough mocha/coffee bean, dark chocolate and spice to be delicious, but not at all overwhelming or "oaky." Feels smooth on the finish, but that's just because the rich fruit nicely cloaks the tannins that will handle a big steak with ease and support 5+ years of development in cellar, too. Truly outstanding value.
