Until 1920, the wines here were labeled “près Saint Emilion” reflecting the way the soils of its next-door neighbor continue into Castillon. And this blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc aged in old oak definitely shows flashes of Saint Emilion character and quality!  Deep cherry fruit flavors are nicely framed by accents of cedar, pencils shavings and wild herbs and sustained by fine, firm, tannins. A great value!

For You If:   You love classic Right Bank Bordeaux aromas, flavors and structure at shockingly good prices.

Not For You If:   You’re looking for something flashy or highly oaked – this is “old school” in the best way.
