Dave Phinney and his long-time winemaking partner Kevin Fox created to showcase some of Napa’s oldest vines and heritage vineyards in an deeply rich and fruit-filled style. The 2021 is Petite Siray, Zin and Syrah with a splash of Grenache. It’s the best release we’ve tasted, balancing the big fruit with refreshing savory notes. As Wine Advocate says in the 92 point review, it’s “a full-bodied, savory-leaning wine. Scents of asphalt and black olives dominate the nose, joined by hints of menthol and blackberries, while the palate is ripe and supple, then folds in some dusty tannins on the bright, mouthwatering finish. It's a big wine (15.7% alcohol on the label), but it handles it well, masked by the concentrated fruit.”
For You If: You love big California red blends that deliver a huge punch of fruit, flavor and texture without turning hot or jammy.
Not For You If: You only want the fruit – this has plenty of that but also a savory side that gives a bit of balance and complexity.
