Like Sancerre across the Loire River, Pouilly Fume is the home of wonderfully minerally dry Sauvignon Blanc grown on a range of soils, each with its own unique character. Here Benoit Chauveau works with vines on loose soils covered and dotted with flint. It gives the wine great energy and verve pure white citrus and stone fruit, and a stony finish that’s dry and complex. A great shellfish and sipping wine.
For You If: You love Sancerre and love getting it for under $30 even more; you enjoy wines with marvelously silky texture that finish with gentle, mouthwatering, grip.
Not For You If: You’re looking for the wild tropical and grass notes of Marlborough Sauvignon – this is more restrained and elegant than that; you’re after a kiss of oak – this is done all in steel.
