Lower ABV Think of Coteaux du Giennois as the front door to Sancerre (technically the “back door” since it’s down river, but that doesn’t sound nearly as good!). The limestone soils here were given over to grains and cattle post-phylloxera but are now turning out nicely stony, minerally and fresh Sauvignon Blanc at a fraction of Sancerre’s eye-watering prices. Like this wine which serves up white citrus, green stone fruit, dried herb and salty minerality in a clean, lightly steely, easy-drinking, package. Rock solid.
For You If: You enjoy the flavors and textures of Sancerre pre-climate-change and the pre-pandemic pricing, too!
Not For You If: You’re after the wildly fruity flavors of New Zealand – this has a bit of attractive French reserve.
