Oak and Sauvignon Blanc are not always good companions, but putting concentrated wine from old vines into very lightly toasted French oak barrels is clearly a good idea – or, at least, has turned out very, very, well here!  Plenty of Sancerre’s classic under-ripe stone fruit and pink and yellow citrus aromas and flavors here plus a hint of smoke and an extra level of detail to the nicely textured palate. Grilled fish will be a brilliant pairing, but nothing in the way of just sipping and savoring the complexity here either!

For You If:  You enjoy the restrained fruit and minerality of Sancerre and are looking for one more notch of complexity.

Not For You If:   You prefer your Sauvignon Blanc fruit to hold center-stage – here it’s playing along with notes of spice and chalk.
