Hard to believe Cru Beaujolais can be less expensive than most Village wines, but here we are. From the pink granite soils of Regnie in the far west of Beaujolais, this is supposed to be a light, easy, wine. But from 50 year-old vines, there’s a delightfully gutsy character to the dark black fruit and plenty of firm, food-friendly, tannins for support. Plump vs lean with flavors flowing through a long, mouthwatering, finish. Bravo!
For You If: You want the pedigree and quality of Beaujolais Cru wine at prices under most Village bottlings; you’re looking for something to slurp down with duck confit, herby lentils, other bistro classics or even a good pizza.
Not For You If: You’re after the velvet texture of Morgon or the grippy power of Moulin-a-Vent – this is a bit more juicy/fresh and easy.
