Lower ABV Altesse gets richer and rounder than the more common Jacquere grape in Savoie, but stays plenty fresh and vibrant in the cooler 2021 harvest. It’s steely in feel and delivers layered flavors of Honeycrisp apple, lemon balm and wild herbs with the kick of a really tart lime sorbet. Kind of like Riesling grown in the Alps with the vines surrounded by fields of wild herb and the sound of cow bells tinkling in from the distance.
For You If: You’re a fan of what we call “low fruit, high texture” wines – wines where the mouthfeel and non-fruit flavors are the heart of the story and fruit flavors are just along for the ride; you’re having fondue or raclette or even a simple poached fish dish.
Not For You If: You’re after the exuberant fruitiness of Sauvignon Blanc or even Pinot Grigio – this is more savory and complex.
