Powerful, rich, mouthwatering and delicious Sancerre from vines planted in 1936 and wine aged 12 months in old French oak. As Wine Advocate says in the 93 point review, “it exhales a deep, complex bouquet despite a touch of sulfur, with aromas of ripe orchard fruits, herbs, exotic fruits, spices and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, round and fleshy with a deep core of fruit, it concludes with an elegant, nicely phenolic finish. Ripe without excess, it’s approachable now but is also built to evolve gracefully.” Pretty glorious stuff with or without food.
For You If: You're looking for the minerality and complexity of white Burgundy but with Sauvignon Blanc's citrus base; you'd like a Sancerre you can at least pretend you're going to cellar - although bet you can't actually hold off on drinking this now!
Not for You If: You're looking for razor-sharp edges and lots of bite - this has plenty of vibrant, refreshing, cut but is overall richer and more dense than most Sancerre.
