Morgan was a pioneer in all stainless steel California Chardonnay and they still do one of the most delicious versions. Santa Lucia Highlands fruit gives plenty of ripe fruit – think pear, apple and papaya – that still retains a nice kick of mouthwatering lemon citrus. There’s no malo here, but plenty of texture and a hint of something like crème fraiche and chalk minerality for complexity. Delicious solo and with salads and fish.
For You If: You love the taste of ripe Chardonnay fruit without any oaky spice or rich butter character; you often enjoy unoaked Chardonnay from Burgundy but want more fruit and richness.
Not For You If: You’re after classic California buttery, spicy, well-oaked Chardonnay; you prefer the kind of crisp, green, orchard fruit and green citrus of Chablis and similar cool-climate Chardonnays.
