Organic/Bio Nebbiolo – the great black grape of Italy’s Piemonte – is more than one thing. Or, at least, makes more than one kind of wine. This is Nebbiolo at its prettiest, dressed up for Sunday but with a tiny smear of breakfast jam on the corner of its mouth. It’s full of pure and pretty red berry fruit with a nicely juicy feel and a squirt of tart berry juice over the fine and lightly gripping tannins. The rose on the label matches the faint rose petal note on the mouthwatering finish. They could have made something different here – the wine is 100% Barbaresco fruit, aged in traditional large and old oak casks, and will probably keep 10+ years. But by keeping the time on the skins short (for Nebbiolo – 20 days) and cool, they’ve brought forward juicy fruit that’s ready to slurp tonight.

For You If:  You love juicy-ripe red berried wines like cool-climate Grenache or Pinot or Nebbiolo; you’re in the mood for yummy vs intellectual; you love Nebbiolo’s rose petal character but can pass on the tar and truffle.

Not For You If:  You’re after the darker fruit and more intense structure and tar & roses perfume of “real” Barbaresco; you don’t like a lot of tannin, even if it’s fine, ripe and melts away after each sip.
