Organic/Bio As Critic Antonio Galloni wrote a few years ago, “Ormanni is one of Chianti Classico's under the radar producers. In top years, these classically-inspired wines really shine, especially the Riserva Borro del Diavolo." And especially this year. Galloni’s 94 point write up tells the tale: “A big, broad-shouldered wine. Black cherry, plum, incense, leather, licorice and tobacco saturate the palate. Potent tannins help shape this super-classic, heady Riserva. Time in the glass brings out scents of blue fruits, worn-in leather, lavender, menthol, licorice and dark spices. Impressive.”
For You If: You like the touch of extra complexity Riserva-level concentration and oak aging brings but still want to enjoy rich Chianti fruit; you’re after Chianti to match with roast pork or beef – this would be terrific!
Not For You If: You’re after cheerful Sangiovese to pair with pizza and pasta – this is more intense and wants darker, more savory, dinner table companions.
