In a great vintage when the top wines are going to need years to show their very best, winegrower Olga Peluso focused on both capturing the essence of the beautiful growing season and letting us enjoy it now. Big, rich, black cherry and plum fruit flavors get complexity from notes of fresh leather and wild herb and just a kiss of spice. The flavors flow nicely across your palate and on through a broad, lip-smacking, finish where the tannins come up just enough to keep everything balanced and focused. Drink it now with rich ragus and steaks and enjoy how the complexity grows over the next 10+ years. All at great, great, price!
For You If: You already know you like Brunello and are after one you can enjoy now without taking out a mortgage; you’re curious about Brunello and want to try one that’s already showing well; you’re after one of the most perfect pairings for grilled beef on earth.
Not For You If: You like your Brunello dark as night and thick enough to cut with a knife – this has plenty of fruit and volume but stays fresh; you prefer overt oak/spice flavor in your Sangiovese – this is more subtle and integrated.
"Lovely sweet berry and terra-cotta aromas as well as flowers. Medium-bodied with juicy fruit and a lemon rind and cream undertone. Drink or hold."
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is darkly alluring with a rich burst of steeped plums, mocha and crushed fall leaves. This sweeps across the palate with soft, silken textures as tart wild berry fruits saturate, offset by a core of zesty acidity. It finishes spicy, long and intense, with a veil of fine-grained tannins that linger even as the mouth is left watering for more."
