The wine-insider name for a wine like this is “a K-J killer” – meaning clean, fruit-filled, supple and lightly oaked Chardonnay that can easily pass for Kendall-Jackson Grand Cuvee but at a much better price. Not sure if that’s what the Australian team at Oxford Landing were going for, but it’s certainly the nail they hit on the head! This is 100% Chardonnay fermented in stainless steel and then aged in tank and, for a small part, in French oak. And, to add complexity, with just a touch of the previous vintage blended in. The result is a wine with excellent body, ripe pear, stone fruit and yellow apple fruit and a nice dollop of buttery caramel from middle through the finish. The pear, apricot and peach fruit rise nicely on the dry and very easygoing finish. It’s VERY hard to find really well-done wines in this style to retail for under $25 any longer. This is very well-done indeed and a steal of a value.
For You If: You are looking for a Chardonnay that isn't heavy or weighty.
Not For You If: You like big, full bodied butter bomb Chardonnays.
