Unlike their grandfather, Robert, and dad Tim (at Continuum), Carlo and Dante leave Cabernet to others and focus on Burgundy's Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The style matches California ripeness with Burgundian minerality to produce rich, highly drinkable, wines. This is named in honor of their grandmother, Marjorie and from super-cool sites in Ft Ross-Seaview on the "true" Sonoma Coast. As James Suckling says in his 97 point rave, "Aromas of dried pineapple, cooked apple, white peach, flint and white peach skin. Full-bodied and very structured, with a quartz, rock and stone character and phenolic, chewy mouthfeel. White flowers at the end."
For You If: You're in the mood for luxury California Chardonnay that perfectly balances rich ripeness and vibrant drinkability.
Not For You If: You prefer the less ripe flavors of white Burgundy - the Sonoma Coast is cool, but still gives more ripe flavors than the Cote d'Or.
"Aromas of dried pineapple, cooked apple, white peach, flint and white peach skin. Full-bodied and very structured, with a quartz, rock and stone character and phenolic, chewy mouthfeel. White flowers at the end. New wine honoring Carlo and Dante Mondavi’s grandmother. A tiny vineyard not far from Charles Ranch."
