Lower ABV I’m skeptical of super-high-altitude California Pinot with 45% whole clusters, 10 months in barrel, only 336 case production and just 12.7% alcohol. This one is convincing, though, in its ripeness, flavor intensity and remarkably long and satisfying finish. The mountain character comes in spades with earthy, stony, smoky savor notes over just ripe red berry fruit and then firm, but delicate, on the finish. Already a lovely match for delicate flavors and sure to get more round and deep with time or air.
For You If: You like your New World Pinot “Burgundian” in weight and structure (if still New World in flavors); “crunchy” is an appealing wine descriptor; you want to drink like the cool kid sommeliers in NYC.
Not For You If: Carneros or Russian River Pinot is normally your jam; you’re after Pinot to enjoy solo as well as with food; you’re looking for “smooth”.
