If you want to know how good a Barolo winemaker is, the saying goes near Alba, taste their Dolcetto. Because while it sells for daily drinker prices, Dolcetto is easy to mess up and hard to get right. Tenuta Cucco got this VERY right. Done all in steel, it’s a boisterous, joyful, mouthful of fresh black fruit with just a touch of floral perfume. Chunky, juicy, satisfyingly grippy, it’s perfect to enjoy with salami, cheese and a bit of warming sunshine.
For You If: You enjoy all-purpose Italian reds that move from pizza to salami to pasta with ease; you like fruit-forward, juicy, wines like Beaujolais – the flavors are different here, but the overall impression is the same.
Not For You If: You’re after something serious and sophisticated – this is wine dressed in overalls with a bit of garden dirt on the knees and some grass stains on the shins, not James Bond in a tux.
