Winemaker Morgan Lee likes to make unexpected wines - as he says, "wines that make people think." Mainly what you'll think after tasting this is, "That's a legit Cab." Thus the name. It's a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon plus Merlot, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot done in 60% new oak. It's plush/fleshy feeling through the mid-palate with loads of cassis and blackcurrant fruit and a nice dash of milk chocolate and oaks spice. Which makes this sound heavy, which it's not, finishing with a juicy freshness that makes it a little too easy to drink. Frankly, I'd have guessed Yountville in Napa based on what I found in the glass. The price is pure Columbia Valley value though!
For You If: You enjoy the richness and depth of good Napa Cabernet at a much better price; you're after a darkly fruited Cab to enjoy with burgers, lamb, steak or solo that doesn't break the bank.
Not For You If: You're after the more forward earthy/non-fruit profile many Washington Cabs give - this is more Napa like in serving up the fruit first and bringing the complexity in after.
