Sardinia’s Cannonao (Grenache) grape has a tendency to funky rusticity. Not here! This is fresh, clean and alluring with berry, graphite and spice flavors pulling you into a sleek, almost crisp, mouthful of juicy fruit and savory mineral flavors. There’s plenty of flavor intensity here, with the strawberry getting riper and white pepper notes more savory with air. But all in a lighter feeling, fresher than expected, package. Yum.

For You If:   You enjoy high-altitude Spanish Garnacha and Langudoc Grenache reds – this delivers a similar burst of really ripe fruit in a wine with plenty of body but no excess weight or candied character.

Not For You If:   You’re after the smack-up-the-side-of-the-head richness of Grenache from places like Chateauneuf du Pape – this is more silky and elegant than that.
