Lower ABV The key quote at our tasting table when we tried the 2023 Cuilleron Marsanne: “I’d pay $35 for this.” Just a little bit of over-excitement there for a terrific take on a grape mostly seen blended with Roussanne in the northern Rhone. Aromas of peach, pineapple and pear pull you into a palate where fruit, flower and stone flavors compete for your attention. The fluid steeliness is addictive and the burst of Pomelo at the end so refreshing. Certainly this will shine with seafood, but also salads, mild cheeses and sunny afternoons.
For You If: You’re looking for a break from the Sauvignon Blanc and/or Italian whites you normally drink – the flavors are different here but the refreshment and satisfaction similar.
Not For You If: You’re after something intensely citric or round and oaky – this uses citrus as a seasoning and is done all in steel for freshness and vigor.
